Mr. Anthony Nyame-Baafi

Mr. Anthony Nyame-Baafi is the Chief Executive Officer at the Africa Trade Initiative for the future, Ghana. He is an International Trade Expert and the Technical Advisor of Multilateral, Regional and Bilateral Trade at the Ministry of Trade and Industry after retiring as a Director for the same Directorate at the Ministry in October 2019. As the Director of Multilateral, Regional and Bilateral Trade Division of Ministry of Trade and Industry in Accra, Ghana from January 2014 - October 2019, he was the Chief Trade Negotiator for Ghana on the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) negotiation which was launched in June 2015. He was also responsible for the coordination of Ghana’s participation in the World Trade Organization, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD); African Union and ECOWAS Commission trade matters; as well as bilateral trade with other countries. In addition, he was the Co-Chair of the National Trade Facilitation Committee, and participated in the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement negotiations. Furthermore, he coordinated the Ghana-European Union Interim Economic Partnership Agreement matters and the Interim Ghana-United Kingdom Trade Partnership Agreement negotiations.

As a former Minister (Head of Commercial Section from August 2008 - December 2013), Permanent Mission of Ghana to the United Nations Office and other International Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, he was the Alternate Chief Negotiator of Ghana for the WTO Doha Round Negotiations; 13th UNCTAD Ministerial Conference which was held in April 2012; Focal Point for both the African Group and the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States in Geneva on Rules (Anti-dumping, Subsidies and Countervailing Measures, Regional Trade Agreements’ and Fisheries Subsidies) for the WTO Doha Round Negotiations. He was the African Group Coordinator in Geneva for UNCTAD issues in 2011.

Mr. Nyame-Baafi has a Master of Business Administration Degree (Marketing option) from the University of Leicester, England, Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours degree in Economics and Geography from the University of Ghana, Legon. He also has a World Trade Organisation (WTO) Trade Policy Diploma; and Post-graduate Diploma in International Trade from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi, India.
